Computer systems and automation
Centralised information systems and web services have the advantage of trancending natural boundaries, they can expand to a network of computers within a local environment, or across the internet and also reach a number of other devices such as mobile phones and portable computers. Services that run with in these information systems are used to support business functions and processes while offering value to it's users. These system can be fully or partially automated.
Automation lays the foundations for an efficient information system both labour & time saving. Technology is becoming increasingly more powerful with progressively faster processors capable of speedy calculations and the ability to perform long monotonous tasks tirelessly and accurately. Through the contrivance of automation we are able to channel some of this power; automation acts as an intermediary between technology and people. We should use automation to its full potential, however remain critical of its proficiency and review its performance regularly. People are ultimately responsible for the proper planning, development and implentation of automated information systems and also its maintainance and upkeep. If we strike the right balance between automation & jurisdiction we will benefit–with a streamlined workflow.
